Creating an Employee Volunteer Program
One of my greatest achievements in my career was creating GTA’s Employee Volunteer Program, called Team Up For Guam. While the company already had a strong Corporate Social Responsibility program, I wanted to make sure it went beyond cutting checks and making donations. Team Up For Guam helped mobilize GTA’s workforce as agents of goodwill thereby helping the communities that the company thrives in.
Curated Volunteer Shifts
I understood that the first step was getting people signed up, but they would not do it if it was too complicated. I created a booking system and partnered with local charities to create volunteer opportunities for GTA team members to sign up for easily. I made sure to visit every department and inform them about the new program. Additionally, I presented it during every new hire orientation to ensure that everyone was aware of it.
Volunteering Is Great For the Organization
Teams rallied to support causes that their members were passionate about. They met up on weekends to paint buildings, sort through donations, or plant seeds. It was a great way to build team morale. In fact, my graduate capstone was based on the program, and I found that it improved the organizational culture at GTA.
Goodwill Ambassadors
The program closed out its first year with 1,700 volunteer hours (valued at over $52,000). That same year I wrote a nomination packet for the company and was recognized as Guam’s 2021 Corporate Goodwill Ambassador.
